Escape the Winter Blues–Find Caribbean Blues Instead

As a travel agent in Ohio, I often get asked about where to go in the winter months for some much needed R & R. Most clients want a nice beach, a great resort and a beautiful ocean that they can enjoy. Although these criteria can be found a number of places, the issue lies within the last stipulation.

Hawaii would be perfect, but it is a bit far away–and no one really wants to travel for full days each way, especially with kids in tow. Florida offers some great beaches and some sunny days, but the water in the Atlantic and the Gulf can be a bit fussy–and, by fussy, I mean CHILLY. It really isn’t until the end of April or the beginning of May that these waters turn warm enough to really enjoy. And, let’s be honest, by this time, Ohio is warm enough to get outside, not to mention way too close to that upcoming summer vacation already planned.

For these many reasons, I often steer clients toward the Caribbean, mainly islands like Jamaica, St. Lucia, Antigua, and Turks & Caicos. Here, you will find some of the best beaches, some of the best resorts, and some of the clearest and warmest water you could wish for throughout the year–even in the winter. With daily highs in the 80s and lows in the 70s, these destinations are perfect for week long vacations or weekend getaways.

Just take a look at some of these amazing islands:
